To me, time off is a loose term. This week off from the team has been a whirlwind. It went as follows:
I flew home to California on Friday night where my best friend Kevin picked me up and we went straight to In N Out because that is always my very first stop when I touch down in California. Saturday morning I was able to go out to breakfast with my mom, which was great because we hadn't seen each other for a few weeks, and she offered to treat me to breakfast which was just an extra sweet deal. Saturday night I had a home cooked meal for the first time in two weeks and WOW did it taste great after being on the road for two weeks. Sunday was Father's Day so naturally, I spent it with my dad at the softball fields! We have spent every Father's Day since I can remember at the fields and it's my favorite way to spend that special day with my dad. We had sushi for dinner because that's his absolute favorite and lucky for me, my favorite too.
My guy Walter. He tries to fit as many tennis balls in his mouth as he can.

Monday afternoon I got on a plane heading to Detroit, Michigan to be with my best friend and teammate Amanda Chidester (she will now be referred to as Chiddy or Chid). I touched down in Detroit at about 12:30 am on Tuesday morning and we had to wake up around 6:30 am so we could get ready and head out to our annual camp that we've held for the past 3 years. That was a crrraaaaazzzzyyyyyy day! We love this camp and it was our biggest one yet, we had pizza for lunch which was one of the highlights, but it was a great day being out on the field and interacting with over a hundred girls who share the same love of the game that we have.
Since we met, Chiddy and I have shared a love for teaching and coaching, and this camp has been a true blessing for us because it allows us to do both of those things. After the camp was over and we said our goodbyes, we went to the store and bought 4 containers of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and the rest is history..
Wednesday and Thursday are what I will refer to as the doozy. Chiddy had recently decided that she was going to move from her apartment in Ann Arbor to a different one in the same complex. So on Wednesday we packed up almost her entire apartment and got the cars packed to start moving on Thursday morning. WHAT A DAY. When Thursday morning hit we were nonstop the entire time, we started at about 10 in the morning, made about 20 trips back and forth between the two apartments, and finally finished getting everything over to the new place (which mind you is on the 2nd story) around 8:30 at night. We didn't sit down all day which was a great thing because if we did, we wouldn't have gotten back up! We rewarded ourselves with an amazing meal at Buffalo Wild Wings, which as I told Chid, that was the motivation that kept me moving.
Friday morning we leave for Kansas City to meet back up with the team.
So as far as "time off", I had a little bit of time off from softball, but zero time off of the go-go-go lifestyle that the summer always brings. To me though, that's one of my favorite ways to spend my time. I would rather be constantly moving and doing all sorts of things than sitting at home doing nothing - don't get me wrong though, sometimes those days are overly necessary for me to keep my sanity, but I keep them few and far between. Not only did I get to participate in a camp that I love being a part of every year, but I got to spend all day everyday with Chiddy in my second favorite state in the country (California obviously being number 1 in my heart always) and to me it doesn't get much better than that. The only thing I would've changed about this week off would be if I could've brought my dog Walter with me because that guy is great company.
This is what happens when you say "Hey Chiddy toss me those keys!" They end up on the roof and we had to use a broom to get them down....
Until next time nerds ✌
