Shavon Monique Gonzalez

Shavon Monique Gonzalez is an 8-year-old hopeful judo star from Jersey City, NJ. Currently in the 3rd Grade, Shavon has been practicing the sport for the past three years and in this short period of time she has demonstrated and absorbed the teachings of judo: dedication, integrity, strength and most of all – true passion.

Despite her young age, she has claimed the number one spot on the podium an impressive amount of times with her hard work and discipline. Some of her gold medal accomplishments include but are not limited to: the Am Cans International Judo Challenge, Junior Olympics, International National Competition, Jr. US Open, as well as many other gold medals in local tournaments.

Shavon’s impressive success in such short time has brought her to the #1 ranking in her division. With continued parental support, training & discipline she is looking forward to an outstanding 2015.

As most kids her age, Shavon has big aspirations for her life in the professional sphere and in this case, also in judo. She dreams of becoming a pediatric doctor, but there is still time for that. What we do know, inferring from her dedication to judo, is that if this January 2015 athlete of the month winner keeps up her hard work, she will one day reach her goal of being a future world champion and eventually representing the United States in the Olympics.

From her parents, family, teachers & friends we are all very proud of Shavon. It is an honor to have received this Merit of Team USA Judo Athlete of the Month.
