Mid-Atlantic/South earns Women's National Championship title

Mid-Atlantic/South and Pennsylvania played for the championship title this afternoon on the final day of the Women’s National Championship at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. After seventy minutes of spirited, action packed field hockey, Mid-Atlantic/South came away with a 4-2 victory over Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic/South today secured their spot in the final at the Women’s National Championship in Norfolk, Va. The final, slated for 1:00 p.m. tomorrow at Old Dominion University’s Powhatan Sports Complex, will be a rematch between the two teams that met on Monday and an opportunity for vengeance for Mid-Atlantic/South who fell 1-0 to Pennsylvania.

SI’s Female College Athlete of the Year competes at Women’s National Championship

Loren Shealy gives the term student-athlete an entire new meaning.
In late spring, Sports Illustrated (SI) set out to find two college athletes of the year, a man and a woman. In search of the perfect well-rounded collegiate student-athlete, they found University of North Carolina (UNC) rising junior field hockey forward Loren Shealy.
Last week, one day before the start of USA Field Hockey’s Women’s National Championship event in Norfolk, Va., Shealy got the news that she had won SI’s female College Athlete of the Year. Not always an ace in the classroom or on the field hockey pitch, Shealy proves hard work and dedication often equals success.

These athletes are in fact a rare breed. You’ll see them pushing No. 2 pencils on their SAT and pushing out streamline passes at the Women’s National Championship (WNC). Despite being the four youngest athletes at the 2013 Women’s National Championship, these extraordinary outliers do not lack in skill or heart. While being a high school student at a prestigious tournament filled with the nation’s most tremendous collegiate Under-21 talent pool may seem like a fair enough reason to be intimidated, Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Ashley Hoffman (Mohnton, Pa.), Alyssa Chillano (Phoenixville, Pa.), and Heather Morris (Pottstown, Pa.) have reputations of exceeding the norm.

U.S. head coach Craig Parnham a day closer to finalizing Women's National Team roster

U.S. head coach Craig Parnham is one day closer to finalizing the 2013-14 U.S. Women’s National Team roster as day three of the Women’s National Championship wrapped up this evening on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Late this afternoon New Jersey recorded their first win of the tournament, Pennsylvania defeated New England/North, and under the lights Mid-Atlantic and Under-21 battled to a draw.

Wet weather doesn't stop competitors at Women's National Championship

USA Field Hockey’s Women’s National Championship continued today under rainy, windy conditions at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Despite wet and inconvenient weather, athletes persevered and put their best effort forward to compete at the highest level in front of head coach Craig Parnham.

Women's National Championship rule variations

At the World League Semi Final, the International Hockey Federation will implement the following variations to the rules of hockey and the FIH has granted USA Field Hockey special permission to play these variations at the Women’s National Championship event only. Please note that these variations are not being adopted for use at any other USA Field Hockey event.
Sisters of the Women's National Championship

Before there was even a score board to light up, a defender to dodge or reserve chip shot to save, siblings helped nurture and grow our ambitious spirit with playground games of tag and tether ball. As the years passed transitioning from our elementary days to elite field hockey players our siblings have always been a constant encourager and motivator inadvertently preparing us for relentless competition on the pitch. This year at the Women’s National Championship five sets of sisters have earned their spot at the tournament bringing their will to win and their family name.
