USA Weightlifting Member Benefits & Discounts for National Event Travel
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – (March 11, 2014) – USA Weightlifting, High Desert Athletics and the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau are pleased to announce the selection of Albuquerque to host 2014 National University Championship, September 25-28.
The event is expected to bring in several hundred attendees, including approximately 250 athletes. The athletes are from colleges and universities around the United States, and represent the best of the best among college-age weightlifters.
“USA Weightlifting is excited to bring our National University Championships to the city of Albuquerque,” said Michael Massik, CEO of USA Weightlifting. “This event provides a platform for colleges and universities across the United States to prove who is the ‘strongest college in America’ and to advance toward representing their nation at the FISU (International University Sports Federation) World University Weightlifting Championships in Thailand this December. Additionally, working with Joaquin Chavez allows us to work with a longstanding coach at the University level.”
“Attracting the University National Championships is yet another example of how Albuquerque is an ideal host city for sporting events, and a strong collegiate city” said Dale Lockett, president and CEO of the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Having recently worked with USA Track and Field on their Indoor National Championships, we are pleased to once again welcome a National level event from within the Olympic movement.”
University and College students born between January 1, 1986 and December 31, 1996 (Ages 18-28) are eligible, and are additionally eligible for up to one year after graduation.
Entry details, hotel information and ticket sales information will be posted to www.usaweightlifting.org as soon as possible.
