OKLAHOMA CITY — After homering in all three games of a Big Sky Conference matchup, Sacramento State’s Krystal Aubert (Orangevale, Calif.) has been named the Week 11 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week, USA Softball announced today. Helping the Hornets to a perfect 5-0 record on the week, Aubert reached base safely in all five contests while either scoring or driving in the game-winning run in three of the wins.
"I am very honored for this recognition from USA Softball,” said Aubert. “There is no way I could have accomplished this without my coaches and teammates. I couldn't be happier in the situation I am in at Sacramento State. I always strive to be the best teammate I can be, and it's amazing to be a part of a program that plays for the person next to them."
Opening the week with a doubleheader sweep at Saint Mary’s, the first baseman combined to go 2-for-4 in two contests. Scoring once in the 6-1, game one win, Aubert’s pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh inning of game two helped the Hornets overcome a two-run deficit for the 5-4 win.
In a three-game series on the road at Northern Colorado, Aubert continued that momentum with a 2-for-4, one run and two RBI performance in the series opener. Sending out a solo shot in the seventh inning, Aubert broke the tie for the eventual 6-5 win. Locking up the series win with a 12-9 win in game two, Aubert scored what proved to be the game-winning run while going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two walks, a home run and four RBI. In the final game of the series, Aubert was once again perfect, going 2-for-2 with a run, double, home run, two walks and an RBI as the Hornets swept Northern Colorado with a 5-4 (nine inning) win.
For the week, Aubert hit .692 (9-for-13) with six runs scored, four walks, three home runs and eight RBI. Aubert compiled a 1.462 slugging percentage while also earning a Big Sky Player of the Week title.
"We could not be prouder of Krystal and her play this season,” said Sacramento State Head Coach, Lori Perez. “She is a staple in our lineup and gives to the team not only on the field, but off the field as well. This recognition is a great honor and a testament to her abilities and her work ethic.”
This marks the first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for Aubert and first Player of the Week accolade for an athlete from Sacramento State.
