USA Softball Women’s National Team set for Alabama Tour Stop July 19-23; Alabama All-Star rosters named

OKLAHOMA CITY — Athletes have been selected to represent the two Alabama All-Star teams, which are set to compete against the 2017 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) July 20 in Tuscaloosa at Rhoads Stadium, while the Auburn doubleheader is set for July 22 at Jane B. Moore Stadium.  The Alabama All-Star rosters are made up of athletes who grew up playing in local rec and travel ball teams, and are currently or have played at the collegiate level. Fans will have the opportunity to watch Team USA face the Alabama All-Stars at the Tuscaloosa doubleheader July 20 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. CT, before Team USA travels to Auburn for the July 22 doubleheader at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT. Tickets for the doubleheader are $12.50 for general admission, while reserved seating is $22 and premier $32, for each location. 

“We are so excited to have the USA Softball Women’s National Team coming to Alabama!” said USA Softball of Alabama Commissioner, Natalie Norman. “It is a tremendous honor for our state and our fans to have the world’s best play right here. The softball fan, both youth and adult, will have the rare opportunity to support the Red, White and Blue as they prepare for the Pan American Qualifier and Japan Cup in August, and onward to 2020! We also will have the privilege of watching our own elite athletes, the Alabama Stars, as they play Team USA! How awesome is the sport of softball!”

“I am very honored to participate in this awesome event, representing the sport of softball and the state of Alabama,” said Auburn Alabama Stars Head Coach, Chris Wilcoxson. “This is a great experience for me personally, as I am excited to compete against the best softball players in our country. Team USA making stops in Alabama is a great opportunity for the youth in our state to see what softball at the highest level is all about. It is just a great opportunity to be a part of the journey to get softball ready for the Olympics.”

In addition to the Alabama Tour Stop, members of the USA Softball WNT and coaching staff will also conduct a players camp on July 22 from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. CT open to players 8-18. Led by Team USA Head Coach Ken Eriksen, attendees will have the opportunity to get hands-on training and instruction from some of the best softball players in the world. Players interested are able to register in advance online through USA Softball of Alabama.

USA Softball of Alabama is set to host a VIP Meet & Greet dinner to give fans an opportunity to socialize with Team USA and the Alabama All-Star team in an exclusive setting. Guests will enjoy dinner with the athletes and coaches and be treated to a lineup of motivational speakers in addition to prizes throughout the evening. Included in the VIP Package is a softball for autographs and one reserved ticket to the Auburn doubleheader. The VIP Meet & Greet will be held at the McWhorter Center from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. CT on July 21. The cost per person is $150 and is open to all ages. Limited space is available.
