NCC POOL ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES
For the 2019 NCC, USA Field Hockey will be conducting a controlled draw to create the pools. The goal is to create pools that are fair in balance by seed + USA Field Hockey ranking and that separates teams from the same region when possible.
Once all teams qualify from the 2019 RCC to the 2019 NCC we will assign teams into “pots” to be drawn from at random. Pots will be constructed based on the number of automatic qualifiers. Below is an example assuming there are 6 winners in an age division, 6 second place finishing teams in an age division and 4 wildcard teams, criteria is based on the number of automatic qualifiers, or 6 total RCC's in a qualifying age division with each automatically qualifying two teams.
- Pot 1 = Four highest USA Field Hockey ranked RCC winners
- Pot 2 = Next two highest USA Field Hockey ranked RCC winners + two highest USA Field Hockey ranked RCC 2nd place finishers
- Pot 3 = Next four highest ranked RCC 2nd place finishers
- Pot 4 = Four At Large Bid Recipients (Wild Cards)
Rules:
- The team assignments to pots will vary by the amount of teams that qualify automatically per age division in all RCCs across the country.
- There will be four rounds of drawing teams from each pot.
- Only one team per pot can be drawn per round UNLESS there are regional conflicts in the pools that may be avoided.
- Drawing starts from Pot 1 and goes through Pot 4.
- Clubs from the same region as another club already assigned to a pool may not be drawn from pots 1, 2 or 3.
-
Clubs drawn from pots 1, 2 or 3 that are from the same region as another club already assigned to the pool, will be assigned to the next available pool without regional conflict for the same respective seed (i.e. If a team is drawn as a 2 seed in one pool, the team must be moved to the next pool for which a 2 seed has not been selected and that also does not create a regional conflict.).
-
Clubs drawn from pot 4 that are from the same region as another team already assigned to the pool will not be assigned to a new pool, but will remain in the pool originally drawn for.
