Team USA extended its streak of days winning a gold medal to five on Day 6 at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. This time it was alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin's turn to step atop the medal stand. She won giant slalom by 0.39 seconds to claim her second-career Olympic gold medal. Americans competing in cross-country skiing and snowboardcross also had strong showings: Jessie Diggins finished just off the podium in fifth in the women's 10-kilometer, while Nick Baumgartner and Mick Dierdorff finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in snowboardcross. Other competitions hosted included men's alpine skiing, pairs figure skating, biathlon and luge, with the women's ice hockey team falling to archrival Canada
