ICE HOCKEY: U.S. National Junior Team Falls in a Shootout, 5-4, to Canada SASKATOON, Sask. - The U.S. National Junior Team scored two shorthanded goals but fell to Canada, 5-4, in a shootout in its final preliminary round game of the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship. The U.S. (3-0-1-0) will face Finland in the quarterfinals on Saturday (Jan. 2) at 8 p.m. CST.

SPEEDSKATING: U.S. Long Track Olympic team finalized An exciting finish in the Ladies 1000m during the 2010 U.S. Speedskating Championships brings both heartbreak and happiness. Kelly Gunther (Lorain, OH) tied her 1000m time from Sunday’s race at 1:17.12 to finish with the fastest time of the event.

CURLING: Weekly notes Reality Star - 2010 U.S. Olympic Team for Curling member Chris Plys (Duluth, Minn.), the alternate on the men's team, appeared on the new E! series "Bank of Hollywood" on Dec. 28 and was awarded $6,500 to help his parents travel to watch him compete at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Plys's father, Patrick, has battled brain cancer and was unable to be with Chris in 2008 when he won the world junior title. Plys's Facebook account exploded with "friend" requests the day after the episode aired.

SPEEDSKATING: Two more Olympic spots filled at the Utah Olympic Oval Although she’s only been speedskating on ice since the fall of 2007, Heather Richardson (High Point, NC) has managed to earn starting positions in three Olympic distances. Richardson won the Ladies 1500m today at the 2010 U.S. Speedskating Championships at the Utah Olympic Oval, earning that Olympic spot along with the 500m and 1000m which she had previously won.
